Lead Data Engineer - Head of Data Engineering
A unique opportunity has arisen for a Lead / Head Data Engineer to join one of Australia’s largest analytics consulting firms.
They have an unrivalled and long-established reputation for delivering market-leading analytics, high-quality insights and innovative, commercially aware business solutions.  
With the expanding needs of their clients and the growing ambitions of their analytics and product development teams, they are at the point of now requiring a Head / Lead Data Engineer to join them.
You will have the unique opportunity to take a leadership role focussed on the use of data across our consulting business. Working closely with the executive team you will help define and roadmap relevant strategies, identify and implement the technology stack, recruit key roles within your team and work with our clients to identify data-driven solutions to help improve their businesses.
Role & Responsibilities

  • Identify new ways of unlocking value for clients through the smart use of data
  • Generate innovative data solutions to help solve complex business problem.
  • Extract data from a variety of sources and data types.
  • Define the technical roadmap for data used in analytics
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholder groups.
  • Adopt industry leading data tools/frameworks that enable predictive analytics.
  • Support a collaborative environment that facilitates bespoke data sharing.

Key skills
  • Strong knowledge of core Hadoop distribution stack such as Hadoop V2, HDFS, Spark, Pig, Hive, Impala and ZooKeeper.
  • Expert knowledge in handling stream data including Kafka, Kafka Streams, Spark Streaming and Storm.
  • Expert knowledge in data integration and messaging platforms including Kafka, Apache Nifi, Flume, Scoop and RabbitMq.
  • Expert understanding of relational databases such as Oracle, SQLServer and MySQL.
  • Expert understanding of NoSQL databases such as HBase, Cassandra and MongoDB.
  • Good knowledge of data model design techniques including OLTP and Dimensional Modelling.
  • Experience with popular distributions such as Cloudera, MapR and Hortonworks.
